Difficulty

Easy

Cake

  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup (not too full) of oil
  • 3 cups of flour (sifted)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • Drops of vanilla essence (if you want)
  • Blend everything, pour the mixture in a cake pan greased with butter and a bit of flour. Take it to the pre-heated oven at 180 degrees.

Fudge

  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of chocolate powder (can be cacao powder)
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • Pour everything in a pan. Use low/medium heat. Stir it in only one direction – clockwise or counterclockwise until it turns into batter and it is possible to see the bottom of the pan (around 3, 4 minutes).

I love cake. I know you love cake too. But why do we love cake so much?I have a theory.

Smells and flavours work together and have an enormous power. They allow us to travel in time, but always to the past. When we eat a slice of cake, we travel directly to our childhood memories. When I eat a good cake, I remember the smell of my grandma’s kitchen and other peaceful and emotional places.

Cake is a comfort food. Maybe the best one.

I love cakes and I love desserts. Give me a dessert and I will show you a true smile. Also, I love cooking and that’s what we Brazilians call “the union of hunger with the desire to eat”.

I am proud of my carrot cake. Not too sweet, amazing smell, best flavour. It’s the recipe that showcases my best performance in the kitchen – I’m not a chef, remember that. I use my cooking moments for fun and a kind of therapy.

For years, I have tried to find the ideal recipe: books, magazines, internet. And I’ve never found it. My solution was to follow the French chemist Antoine Lavoisier: nothing is created, everything is transformed. I messed up with some cakes until I found my ideal recipe.

And I don’t have any pleasure in keeping the formula to myself. Firstly, it’s very simple. Secondly, if my carrot cake is good for me, I want to share the same happiness with other people. This cake experience that takes me to the first years of my life. Wonderful years.
